MIXED TRAIN DERAILED

FIVE TRUCKS CAPSIZED INVERCARGILL INCIDENT I Per Press Association 1 INVERCARGILL. Oct. 31. Five trucks, a horsebox and two carriages were derailed a few chains north of Brydone Hill, when a mixed train from Invercargill to Clinton was derailed a few minutes after noon today. None of the six passengers was injured, although an elderly woman was treated for shock. Although the cause ot the accident has not been determined, it is thought to have been due to a fault, in one of the trucks, which several motorists saw jumping on the track just before the accident. , The carriages remained upright as they left the rails, but the trucks, which were filled with coal, capsized, ' some rolling down the embankment. : When the train stopped one of the carriages stood with two trucks ranged alongside. Further along the i train, beside the front carriage, lay two more trucks. The horsebox con- ' tained the Clydesdale Farmer Cham- ; pion, and it was necessary to use an axe to release the horse, which was ’ not even scratched. Although con- : siderabie damage was done to the ’ track the express was able to get ' through, arriving at Invercargill an hour and a-half late.
