RED CROSS SOCIETY (Own Correspondent). A meeting of the Red Cross Society j was held in the Town Board office last week, Miss B. Elmslie presiding. Mesdames F. Sheppard, E. R. E. Ross, J. C. Gray, D. G. Thompson, J. B. Valentine, J. T. Linehan and Miss P. Gray, and Messrs. A. Elmslie, J. Belton, D. Chamberlain and J. I’. Linehan were also present. It was decided to ask Dr. Duncan to take the lectures tor the society. MOTOR COLLISION A motor collision between cars driven by Rev. E. T. King, Presbyterian minister at Taihape, and Miss Nessie Scott, occurred on the Papaki Road, Taihape, on Monday, and resulted in both cars being damaged, though fortunately nobody was hurt. Mr. King was travelling alone at the time of the accident but Miss Scott had one passenger in her car. GOLI CLOSING Though the date has not yet been definitely fixed there i.s every indication that the closing of the Taihape Golf C.ubs finks at Raukura for the season will be hold on November 12, when the usual presentation of trophies will take place. The official closing ceremony will be performed by the president of the club, Mr. F. Reece, i he usual mixed foursome competition will be played and afternoon tea will be provided. WAR LECTURE A reminder is given of the war lectin e to be given at the monthly meeting of the Taihape R.S.A. on Friday of this week by Mr. C. E. Scott, on the attack of the Australian' Army Corps on August 18, 1918. This battle is described in General Ludendorff’s Memoirs as “Germany’s Black Day.” A cordial invitation is extended the Taihape Territorials and Legion of Frontiersmen to attend.
