CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE The monthly meeting of the executive of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce was held last night, Mr. D. G. O’Toole presiding. Those present were Messrs. A. S. Burgess, W. M. Cole, A. E. Rankin, W. Draffin, C. N. McLean, C. S. Jeffs, S. R. McCallum, W. S. Rennie. F. H. Bethwaite, W. J. Gilberd, B. M. oilk, N. Izard, R. C. 'Taiboys, C. Linwood. A. Larsen, W. J. : Robinson, A. McPhail. G. Jackson, W. O. D. Ryall, T. N. Dickson, and E. Renz. Messrs. Chainey Bros.. E. C. Renz, and T. N. Dickson were elected as new members. The president extended a welcome to Messrs. N. Izard and B. M. Silk as new members of the executive. j The following committees were appointed for the year:— J Finance. —Messrs. F. H. Import Restrictions. ; A suggestion was received from the Auckland Chamber 01 Commerce that • a national conference should be convened to discuss the import restriction scheme now in operation and the I inconvenience which it caused to the j business community. '• Mr. A. S. Burgess said that import[ers were frequently able to secure I import licences but were unable to secure sterling funds to pay for the I goods. The position was becoming very i serious, particularly for manutactur- : ers, and some action would have to be i taken soon to meet the position. I Manufacturers were experiencing difficulty in securing sufficient supplies of raw materials. I On the motion of Mr. Burgess U | was decided to support the Auckland ' Chamber of Commerce if a conference was called.
