RANGIWAHIA NOTES

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE (Own Correspondent). RANGIWAHIA, Oct. 29. The Rangiwahia Women’s Institute meeting in October was largely attended. After the National Anthem had been sung, Miss McKenzie welcomed members from near-by institutes. One now member wlls elected. Mrs. Lancaster, the delegate for the half-yearly council meeting, gave a comprehensive report on activities. Mrs. W. Beard and Mrs. Meiklejohn judged the bandaging competition —best bandaged lingers. Mrs. J. Thompson came first and Miss Guthrie second. It was announced that the November competition would be an ankle bandage. Mrs. Jenkins proposed that owing to the petrol restrictions the gardening circle conduct their competitions at the inslitute meetings. In November the gnome will bo competed for with the best flower bloom other than a shrub. The competitions for lhe month resulted: Best bowl of spring bulbs arranged for effect, Miss McKenzie .1 Miss J. McMillan 2, Mrs. McMillan 3; best limeric. about the institute, Mrs. Jenkins .1, Mrs. J. Thompson 2, Miss Guthrie 3. The November meeting will be conducted by the younger members of the instilu tc. METHODISE LADIES’ GUILD A very pleasant afternoon was spent at the October meeting of lhe Ladies' Guild. Mrs. Leo Rose presided over a good attendance. The competition was for a dressed doll and was won by Mrs. James 1, Mrs. Leu Rose 2. Mrs. Brcnsell 3. The bazaar to be held in December was discussed, and arrangements w ere made. Afternoon tea was served by the. hostesses, Mrs. Mill and Mrs. Brensell. TENNIS ('LI B Fine weather prevailed last. Saturday for the opening day of lhe local tennis club. Tnere was a large number of players present. The patron, Mr. D. T. Couper, opened the courts. The winners of the competitions were Mrs. F. Clarke and Mr. G. Hamilton.
