MARTON NOTES

CATHOLIC DANCE There was a splendid attendance at the Empire Hall, Marton, on Saturday night, when the Catholics’ dance was in progress, the committee being well rewaraed for its efforts in attaining such a splendid result. The guests from a local wedding and visitors to the Rangitikei races found this function a good iinish to their celebrations. Ashton's local orchestra was at its best, comparing most favourably with outside orchestras for rhythm and tunc, incessant recalls being demanded and responded to. The star item of the evening was th? first appearance in Marton of Mr. J. Moran, of Invercargill, who sang and accompanied himself on his Spanish guitar, and like Oliver Twist, the audience wanted more and more. The spot waltzes were won by Miss Fitzgerald and Mr. K. Hendra and Miss Gray and partner. Messrs T. Barry and K. Durney made efficient M.C.'s, while the supper j arrangements were presided over by Mesdames R. Sutcliffe. F. Connell and j A. O. Scott.
