STORM IN HAWKE’S BAY
THREE WATERSPOUTS SEEN DAMAGE TO ORCHARDS I Per Picks Association.] HASTINGS, Oct. 30. A brief but violent storm, which broke over Napier and Hastings shortly before 9 o'colck this morning, caused considerable damage to orchards, fences and roofs. From the hill area at Napier residents had a splendid view ot three small waterspouts which swept across Hawke’s Bay with great rapdity and disappeared in the direction of Gisborne. The waterspouts which were first seen near Cape Kidnappers, travelled over the sea several miles apart for the few minutes during which they were visible. The columns of water rapidly gained in dimensions. A restricted but heavy hailstorm originated near the centre of Hastings and swept down toward the with disastrous results to several orchardists. The loss to growers is estimated at some hundreds of pounds.
