BOOKS FOR DEFENCE CAMPS
Sir, —At a meeting of the New Zealand Library Association Council held on Friday last, Mr. Norrie, secretary, reported that he and Mr. Alley, Director of the Country Library Service, had been in consultation with defence authorities on the matter of providing adequate library facilities in the various camps. The Library Association will be responsible for the organisation of the libraries; tne defence authorities are glad of this and have promised accommodation and the appointment of a camp librarian in each camp. A country-wiae appeal is to be made for books; public libraries will act as receiving depots. Mr. James Siddells, chairman of the Wanganui Library Committee, has been pleased to approve of this library being used as a receiving depot for Wanganui and district. Mr. Norrie visited Trentham ami found that reading matter is urgently required. Will all who are able to contribute books or periodicals for camp use, or subscription for purchase of books, kindly leave same at the Wanganui Public Library. It is desirable that books or periodicals should be in good condition. I appeal to your readers to assist ill this work, which will do much to contribute to the happiness and wellbeing of those in the camps.—l am, etc. A. M. BLACKETT. Librarian.
