MARTON ATHLETIC AND CYCLING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING (Own Correspondent.) MARTON. Oct. 30. The annual meeting of the Marton Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club was held on Monday evening: Mr. C. C. McDonald presided over a good attendance of members. The president (Mr. C. C. McDonald) in his annual report, stated: “The bad weather experienced at the commencement of the season resulting in the abandonment of two open meetings for which record entries had been received, was a considerable loss to the club and marred an otherwise successful season. “The standard set by the eompcti. tors was high and some excellent competitions resulted. Several of out members competed at the West Coast Centre meeting, K. Coles winning the 100 yards championship, A. Bush running second in both the 110 and 220 yards hurdles championship while J,. Moss and K. Coles competed for the Wanganui team to win the relay race. “The winners of the main club competitions throughout the season were as follows: Galpin Cup, K. Coles and W. Watts (equal); Chainey Cup. E. Gibbs; Way Cup, K. Coles; Gatrell Cup. Miss J. Bush; Smart Trophy, N. Ellery; Dornbusch Trophy, Miss A. Gibbs; Thomson Trophy, S. Cnristopher. “Mr. W. J. Simpson donated a trophy for competition by teams from the Marton J).H. School. This proven a very popular competition and was very keenly contested, the winners being the Red House team. Miniature cups for (his event were presented by Messrs. Wood (4), Wright, McDonald, and K. and N. Atkinson. “From a financial point of view the club suffered a considerable loss of revenue through weather, but in .spite of the many setbacks the season ended with a credit balance of £8 Is Gd with liabilities nil. The loud speaker account also shows a credit balance of £9 Is 4d, while the total assets of the club, after allowing for depreciation, amount to £6l 16s tOd.” The report and balance-sheet were adopted. Election of officers: Patron, Mr. F. Purnell, re-elected; president, Mr. C. C. McDonald, re-elected; vice-presi-dents, Messrs, G. Thomson, C. Stafford and W. E. Simpson; secretary, Mr. A. Smart; assistant-secretary, Mr. A. Gracey; lion, treasurer, Mr. A. H. Holden: hon. auditor, Mr. A. Barr; handicappers, running Mr. C. Henderson, cycling Mr. I. Ross; general committee, Messrs. C. Pidwcil, F. Wood. J. Evans, senr., F. Harper, S. Christopher. K. Scott, B. Dornbush, F. Tolley, W. TT. Holland, M. Atkinson, K. Atkinson, S. Blackledgc, and officers ex officio; groundsman. Mi. C. A. Hooper; announcer, Mr. A. J. Dashwood; time-keeper, Mr. D. Thomson, field events committee, Messrs. G Thomson, C. Piriwell and M. Madia, with power to add. It was decided that singlets be purchased for the school relay teams, that prizes be awarded on points at each club evening meeting in running and cycling events. Members’ tickets at 5s are to be awarded for all club and open meetings. The following dates have been applied for: Open meeting, December 9; carnival meeting, December 20. The club’s evening meetings will start on Tuesday, November 21. Representations are to be made to theh Marton Borough Council to shift the electee light poles on the eastern side of the Park providing the club will find the labour. Votes of thanks were given Messrs. I. Ross. C. Stafford, L. Chainey and D. Thomson, promoters of the road race.
