POOR RESPONSE
MACRI BATTALION ONLY 20 ENLISTMENTS • POSITION IN WANGANUI AREA • Poor response has been received* in i the Wanganui Military District for ; enlistments in the Special Maori Mi.i- ■ tary Force, only 20 enrolments having been received to date. ' The Wanganui district extends to as far south as Otaki and as far north 1 las National Park. The recruits have i not yet been subjected to a medical | examination. One of the reasons for the poor response is considered to be the fact I that a large number of natives have ! already enlisted in the Special MiliI tary Force. Many of these recruits i in the Wanganui district have already ■ been drafted to camps. The Maori I battalion is to be encamped on the Palmerstop North Showgrounds.
