PAY THEIR OWN DRIVING LICENCE FEES

MEN AT WANGANUI FIRE STATION I ‘SHOULD THE BOARD MEET THE EXPENSE? Attention of the Wanganui Fire Board has been drawn to the fact that some of its employees at the fire station have to pay motor-driving licences out of their own pockets. The mens union has requested that this be put right. I It was reported by the chairman lof the board (Mr. A. E. Halligan) to !a meeting yesterday, that the board ! pays the licence fees of four men. Six, it was stated, paid their own fees. ■ ?.Ir, Halligan said that the matter j was discussed when the award was * drawn up and extra wages had been lagreed to to cover the payment of Ithe fees by the men. Mr. W. J. Rogers: The men’s request is a very fair one. • Mr. Halligan: They cannot have it {both ways. I Mr. H. R. Jones: It is covered by the award. I Mr. Rogers: Why should the question be raised if it specifically provided ‘for in the award? Mr. Halligan: I made enquiries and I was told that it was covered. Mr. D. S. N.
