Jl LY MEETING I: 'The July meeting of the Okoia W.i.! l was presided over by Mrs. G. R. J Jones. A very welcome member was Mrs. J. McGrail, who has left the district but came in from town for the meeting. A welcome was also extended to Mrs. McConachy, a visitor ■ from Kongo tea. There was quite a good attendance and the meeting opened with the singing of the Ode to Friendship. Miss IBetty McGrail road the thougnt for July: “I do not think much of a man who is not wiser to-day than he was yesterday," after which the roll call •‘Noises * I dislike" brightened the [afternoon considerably, one m mboj shocking the majority by declaring j | her dislike for the noise of bagpipe... : another disliked the noise of It. r hus- ! oand snoring and another one the [noise of her neighbour’s hens cackling! when her ov. n hens were refusing to j lay- . I Miss Gwen Rice gave a very inter-, esdng talk on her recent trip by the Alatua to the Islands. Miss Rice very I i kindly brought along a lot of snap.:,! land island hand-crait and was give.i| in very hearty vote of thanks by on-' I ■and all. j Mrs. Wilson continued the Golden Thread, giving the life story of Mrs. [Stack, of physical culture renown. It Iwas a very interesting story and ithoroughly enjoyed by the members. ■ Mrs. Renz displayed articles of Imarqu'.ttry, pewter, brass and poker [work, as it is intended to form an arts | and crafts class with Mrs. Renz in | charge. | The competition for a sugar bag ■ apron was not as well patronised as it might havi been considering what a useful article it is. Mrs. Me- - kindly judged the aprons and awarded Mrs. Spooner 1, Mrs Pratt 2, Mrs. Renz 3. For the best flower, judged by Miss Rice, Mrs. Clare 1, Mrs. Hughes 2. Mrs. Burr 3. For August the special competition | w ill be for *‘my favourite guest towel and the points competition "a laundered serviette." Members arc asked to bring along any old New Zealand photographs, relics, or anything that will help to make the New Zealand day an interesting and enjoyable one, also to bo prepared to answer the roll call, ‘ A one-minute talk of some place of interest in New Zealand." The hostesses will be Mrs. Aitchcsen and Miss Burr, assisted by Mrs Bamber and Mrs. Bradley.
