MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED
EXPLOSION IN QUARRY I -I.MPANION' ESCAPES DELAYED CHARGE GOES OFF ( Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND. July 18. One quarryman was serious injurec and another had a remarkable escape when a delayed explosive charge, bo ing used in the Public Works quarry near Taupaki, caught them unaware. The injured man, Walter Raymonc 1 Fitton, aged 52, of Auckland, was brought in an ambulance to the Auckland Hospital, but. his companion, T D. Menzies, was unhurt. The injured man was fully conscious almost throughout the morning but he stoically bore the journey from the quarry to the hospital. He suffers extensive injuries to the head am chest. His conditions i.s very serious
