ON HAWERA TRACKS MARTON CANDIDATES YESTERDAYS GALLOPS The extreme outside of the course proper provided fairly heavy going al Hawera yesterday morning. Chief interest was centred in the work of the local horses engaged at Marton or Saturday, writes "Gdiospur” in the Hawera Star. Viracious (Toki) defeated Amorosc I (Poi) over five furlongs in 1.8. The ■ former has unfortunately developed ? i slight cold, and his owner-trainer, H Scally, stated that Viracious may not make the trip. Amoroso went fasl early but, as usual, stopped quickly at the close. Winsome Lu (Riley) got to the end of an easy five furlongs in 1.9 3-5. The Raceful mare has made rapid advancement in recent weeks and she may be an early winner. Race Away hit out with plenty of freedom when shading Vai Pore in a two furlongs sprint which occupied 25 l-ssec. Race Away is one of the most ' promising novice gallopers in comi mission here. He revels in heavy I ground. Vai Pore is fairly backward i just now. but is a good mover and ' possesses plenty of size. Silk Sox and Disturbed encompassed • a round at a working gallop. They are booked for Riccarton. Disturbed will not race before the Grand Nalional Hurdles. Silk Sox is to contest the Jumpers’ Flat on the opening day. Car Leaf (Ryan) completed two rounds of solid work on the sand by running the last six furlongs in 1.28. He will be piloted by W. Grindlay on Saturday. Alexcelia (Holland), a rising two--1 year-old filly by Captain Bunsby— Silver Wings, in H. Scally’s stable, shaped nicely in a sprint up the straight with the Vaals—Airway filly (Ryan). A neat-actioned youngster, the former impresses as one likely to be well forward for early racing. O. Cox’s pair, Belle Cane and Mahaina. hit out well in two short sprints. Both fillies are making good progress. Prime Quality and Kilometre have resumed regular exercise after beneficial let-ups. Prime Quality has thickened out considerably, and his i companion has grown a good deal and I will ho a tall three-year-old. Bartie is attached to J. T. Jamieson’s stable and will probably he required for High Castle in the Chelmsford Stakes, but Jones does not expect much difficulty in securing a suitable rider for that race.
