WANGANUI ASSOCIATION ' CLP COMPETITION MATCHES MA RIST DEFEAT ATHLETIC. (By Waveriey.) The Wanganui Football Association Cud competition was advanced a further stage on Saturday. On Cook’s Gardens Athletic suffered their second defeat of the season when Marist defeated them by 2 goals to 1. On Victoria Park Eastbrooke played their best game to date and had technical Old Boys on the run practically all day. Eastbrooke were leading by 4 goals to 1 ten minutes from the finish. but Old Boys in a thrilling finish scored three goals and the final whistle sounded with the score even. , Eastbrooke and Technical Old Boys. Technical Old Boys made ground from the start but Kidd's parting effort went wide. Eastbrooke took up the running and Nelson tried from the wing, but Good saved well. Keeping it up Eastbrooke were first to score. Quinn, getting the ball in mid-lield, sent Nelson away tor the winger to send over a lovely cross and Ward netted from close range. Both teams kept up the pressure but Eastbrooke were more dangerous near goal and 1 scored a second time when Quinn beat I Good with a hard drive. Half-time I arrived with the score: Eastbrooke 2, (Technical Old Boys 0. i Upon resuming Technical Old Boys '.went all out for a quick goal but Hubbard, Tasker and Taylor were very safe and soon Eastbrooke were round Good, going further ahead when Mclnteer sent intieiu for Ward to score. Old Boys at last were rewarded when Nimmo scored from close range. Eastbrooke scored right from the kick-off. Nelson streaked down the wing, crossed to the centre and Ward put the finishing touch to a fine movement. Back came Old Boys and following play near the Eastbrooke goal the ball came out to Breed, who sent in a great shot to reduce the leeway. Old Boys scored again when the forwards moved upfield en masse and Joyce netted from Darby's cross. Joyce scored again to make the scores level. Old Boys had charge of the game but failed to score again and a thrilling game ended with the score: Eastbrooke 4. Technical Old Boys 4. The referee was Mr. F. H. Killeen. ; On Cook's Gardens Athletic were without the services of Proudfoot, Thompson and Meikle, but gave Marist a great game and were not disgraced. This was Healey's farewell appearance for Athletic as he leaves | , for Wellington to-day. : The referee was Mr. S. Stewart, j Junior Grade.
