SALE AT NAPIER BRITISH DEFENCE MEASURES MAY BE RESPONSIBLE VALUES INCREASE BY HALFPENNY I Per Tress Association.] NAPIER. April 27. Attributed by one of the leading buyers to conscription measures overseas, particularly in Britain, unusually spirited bidding marked the final wool sale of the season to-night in Napier. The first catalogues snowed a substantial rise on the Wellington sale, many growers being pleasantly surprised to find a rise from a halfpenny to a penny on the previous sale, and sellers limits are believed to have been exceeded substantially. Bradford were the main operators and the Continent to a less degree. Competition was keen and the prospects are for an excellent sale. Passings were almost non-existent in the , early catalogues. Crossbred comprised the greater portion of the clip. Approximately 99 per cent, of the catalogue was cleared. Prices showed a general increase of a halfpenny, though, in some cases, the increase was greater. Growers express the greatest satisfaction with the sale.
