I | REV. R. GOBI REV AND MRS GODFREY. There was a splendid gathering of the congregation of St. Laurence, on! the eve of St. Mark’s day, to say the 1 official farewell to the Rev. Richard I Godfrey and his wife, who are leav-| ing next Monday to take up their rc-1 j sidence in the vicarage of St. | Columba, Auckland. The ladies had! I charge of the arrangements and pro-| ; vided one of their deservedly popular j waggon-teas, and had decorated the | hall for the occasion. The speakers were full-hearted, sin-! cere, and unconventional. They were:,
| Mrs. C. L. White, for the Mothers’ 'Union; Mrs. C. R. White, for the | Ladies’ Guild; Mrs. Smith, for the | Girls’ Bible Class; Athol White, for I the servers and Boys’ Bible class; Mr. ’ Davisoin, for the layreaders; Mr. C. L. i White for lhe vestry, Mr. Godfrey, for the choir; and the people’s warden, Mr. F. Haywood, summed, meritoriously. the whole of the work of the Rev. Godfrey during his two years’ . headship of the P.D. of Aramoho, which includes the beautiful church and grounds of St. Oswald, Westmere. The vicar, in his reply, said he felt he had not earned the good things I said, and expressed his and Mrs. GodI frey’s appreciation of the loyalty and co-operation received everywhere. He asked communicants to meet him at the 8 a.m. Bucharest on Sunday and announced that he would dedicate, at evensong, the lining, ewer, and cover of the font, gifts previously acknowledged, which service would end his vicariate here. The Ven. Archdeacon Young 'LA., will “induct” the Rev. 2)onn ti. Datson at 7.30 p.m. Wednesday; after’ ward- - . Mr. Datson, Mrs. Datson and I family, will become acquainted with I members of the congregation at a ; welcome tea.
