SCOUT TROOP AT BULLS
PROPOSAL PUT FORM ARD. COMMITTEE FORMED. (Own Correspondent). BULLS, April 27. . Between 20 and 30 attended a meeting in Clifton Hall this week to consider a suggestion to re-form the Bulls Scout Troop. Miss N. Wilsotn gave a short talk, and Scout games were conducted, these proving very popular. A party of Scouts from Marton arrived, led by Scouters Eric Jones and Ted Street, and in welcoming them Miss Wilson recalled that 23 years ago a party of Bulls Scouts had gone to Marton to assist in the formation of the troop there. She was now glad to have the good deed returned, and to accept the assistance of the Martonians. The Marton Troop entertained with a Maori haka, and also gave a fine exhibition of stave drill. Later in the evening they indulged in Scout games. Two 400-ft. films of the cruise of the Orduna were shown by Miss Wilson, the cruise being undertaken by some 450 Scouts and Guides from 13 nations, in August, 1938. The fact th-t those on board included the Chief Scout (Lord Bade.nPowell), and his wife and the Chief Guide (Lord Baden-Powell’s daughter), Miss N. Wilson and many other Scouting notabilities made the trip all the more interesting. From the’
enthusiastic reception which the party enjoyed everywhere, it was encouraging Io note the Scouting spirit, which knows no international barriers. The countries visited were Iceland, Norway, Denmark and Belgium, and the trip lasted a fortnight. Rev. Crocket, thanked Miss Wilson for showing the Him, which was most interesting and he also thanked the Marton Scouts for their visit, both votes nt thanks being carried by acclamation. Rev. Crocket asked all interested to remain behind after supper to consider the formal ion of a Bulls Troop. He could see that potential Scouts were present, he said, and it was only a matter of getting a Scouting organisation working. The following committee was appointed to take the necessary steps to form the troop, and to appoint a scoutmaster: —Rev. R. Crocket, Miss N. Wilson, Mrs. Evies, L. Vile. R. Kemp, J. Stewart, E. Petersen and J. Prichard (hon. sec.). The meeting concluded with the reading of a report by Mr. Eric Jones on the work which he had already done with a few of the hoys interested in Scouting. He stated, however, that what he was doing was not enough, and that if Scouting was to amount to anything at all, a troop must be properly organised.
