FATE A COURT. (Own Correspondent.) A lirst offender, a stranger to Patea, was charged with being found drunk ir. Bedford Street on Friday, before Mr. E. F. Hemingway, J.P., in the Patea Magistrate’s Court on Saturday. He was convicted and fined £l. Constable Kelly gave evidence that accused was very drunk and roaring like a “bull.” COMBINED SPORTS BODIES. Lengthy discussion took place at a meeting of combined sports bodies last week concerning the flood-light-ing of the Domain. The electrical engineer, Mr. J. O. Cunningham, reported that a similar system to that of Stratford would cost £271 9s 4d, which included four poles 65 feet long at £l5 each, and lights costing £l7 6s 6d each, eight being required. He stressed that height was absolutely necessary for the success of the scheme. With only four lights the cost would be £202. Stratford's lighting cost £225. It was decided to hold a ball on May 2 in aid of the flood-lighting

fund, the price of admission being 4s for gentlemen. 3s for ladies, 6s for for double tickets and 2s 6d for non-dancers. Messrs. Quickenden and Thompson's offer of assistance was accepted with thanks. Mr. D. Ansley was appointed secretary to the fund and Mr. L. Fisher assistant. Mr. G. Francis was appointed treasurer. Mr. E. F. Hemingway presided. METHODIST CHURCH. Rev. W. J. Henderson, newly appointed minister of the Methodist Church, was inducted last Thursday night, Rev. G. F. Stockwell, Hawera, conducting the service. Rev. E. F. Farr and Lieut. McKay welcomed Rev. Hendersen. A duet was rendered by Misses Hamblyn and Meuli, and supper was dispensed by the ladies. An apology was received from Rev. W. H. Walton. EUCHRE TARTY. The second series of euchre parties in aid of the Carlyle W.I. funds was held al Mrs. H. J. Peacocke's residence on Saturday evening, the winners being Mrs. Peacocke and Mr. R. Mercer.
