LIVESTOCK MARKETS

i THE WANGANUI SALE PRICES FULLY FIRM . Freeman R. Jackson and Company ‘ offered a fair average yarding to a ’ good attendance of buyers at yesterday’s Wanganui stock sale, and with the exception of store pigs values for all classes were fully firm. A few lines of sheep came forward, of which a fair portion was passed at auction, but later sold privately. Heavy entries of vealers are now coming for- ’ ward and prices are inclined to ease from sale to sale. VALUES AT ADDINGTON OVERFLOW IN SOME SECTIONS SATISFACTORY BEEF PRICES I [ Per Press Association ] CHRISTCHURCH, April 19. The continued dry weather in the 1 province was reflected at the weekly ; , stock market at Addington to-day by i an overflow of stock in several of the < more important sections. The result < , was a general easing in prices, al- s though fat lambs sold up to schedule t values. Store Sheep.—The entry was much t smaller than that of last week, but s the market showed little change, t There was a fair demand for coarse- i woolled ewes, although these have 3 been steadily easing for some weeks. A good-conditioned line of Chatham e Island sound-mouthed ewes made 19s c 9d. Other coarse wools not so good in t the mouth sold from 12s 6d to 15s. s < Best two-tooth fine wools sold to 19s 3d. Best lambs averaged about Ils, medium 6s 6d to 9s, low conditioned down to 4s. The demand for adult wethers was poor and most were passed. The entry of about 3000 fat lambs was the largest for some time. About 1700 were forward last week. Com- ( petition from the export trade was 1 restricted and lambs sold no better - than bare schedule rates. r . The entry of about 7500 fat sheep 1 was an overflow one and the quality J was mixed, although there was a good i proportion of prime wethers. The 1 sale opened at a lower level than the j average rates of last week, and im- 1 proved a little later. There was an easing of Is 6d to 2s on nearly all ! classes in the latter part of the sale. J Extra prime heavy wethers made to ' 27s 7d, prime heavy 21s 6d to 245, 1 prime medium 18s 6d to 21s, light to 1 14s. Extra prime heavy ewes made L to 20s, prime heavy 14s 6d to 18s, 1 1 prime medium 11s 6d to 14s, light to 1 <’s. < 2 Fat Cattle. —The section was heavily ; • over-supplied with a total of 630, against 390 last week. The market ; opened well for best lines of steers and ; heifers, there being only a very minor easing on the good rates of a week ago. For all other classes, however, ■ the market was down, particularly for second-class cows. Considering the over-supply of indifferent quality the = sale for good beef was satisfactory. Medium-weight prime cattle in a y number of cases made 36s to 37s per -1001 b., and medium 32s to 345. Extra prime heavy steers made to £l7 17s 6d, ° prime heavy £l4 to £l5, prime medium s £l2 to £l4, light to £8 15s. Extra 1 prime heifers sold up to £l3 2s 6d, prime £9 10s to £lO 10s, medium £6 ’ 15s to £8 15s, light to £6. Extra prime e cows made up to £l3 7s 6d, prime £7 u 5s to £8 15s, medium £5 5s to £6 ss, d light and aged to £5. The entry of porkers was the largest for some time and prices from the d outset were easier than for some n sales. Baconers were yarded in larger ! t ‘ numbers than at any sale so far this f - season, and prices eased from 5s to 6s y a head all round. Choppers were in ’■ fairly heavy supply and these met a ,c good sale at prices fully on a par with those of a week ago. Choppers made 53s 6d to £5 18s 6d, porkers 37s 6d to 54s 6d, average price per lb. 6id to 7d. Baconers sold at 54s 6d to £4 6s 6d, average price per lb. siid to 6 Id. _
