ANZAC DAY PARADES

WANGANUI ARRANGEMENTS EX-SERVICEMEN TO ATTEND CEREMONY AT DAWN Anzac Day, Tuesday next, is to be observed throughout New Zealand as a close holiday and appropriate services will be held to commemorate those who lost their lives in the Great War, 1914 to 1918. There will be three services in Wanganui—a parade to the Cenotaph by returned soldiers at dawn, a memorial in Moutoa Gardens at 10 o’clock in the morning, and a civic memorial service on Cook’s Gardens at 2.30 in the afternoon. A feature of the service in the afternoon will be the handing over from the Wanganui R.S.A. of the Colours of the Wellington West Coast Regiment to the Collegiate School cadets. Speaker From Wellington. The speaker at the afternoon service will be the Rev. N. F. E. Robcrtshawe, M.A., M.C., C.F., vicar of St. Marks’ Anglican Church, Wellington. ‘ Captain J. W. Barry, N.Z.S.C., adjutant of the parade in the afternoon, has issued orders covering the order and route of march and the allocaiion of positions on Cook’s Gardens. ' Major D. A. C. Lilburne, of the WelI lington West Coast Regiment, will command the parade, the fall-in being limed for 1.30 p.m. The route will be from the Drill Hall, via Watt Street, Cameron Terrace, Queen’s Park, Market Street, Moutoa Gardens, Taupo Quay, Victoria Avenue, Guyton Street, Nelson Street, to Cook’s Gardens. The order of march is to be: Band of the Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles, returned soldiers (in charge of Mr. W. H. Caiman, president of the Wanganui R.S.A.), Legion of Frontiersmen, St. John Ambulance BriI gade, Red Cross Society, Wellington ! West Coast Regiment (depot strength, ' with band), detachment of the Queen Alexandra Mounted Rifles, First Cadet Battalion of the Wellington West Coast Regiment (Collegiate School | cadets). The Wanganui Highland Pipe Band ' and the Salvation Army Band will be on parade. The Garrison Band is to ' proceed direct to Cook’s Gardens and will play appropriate music until the arrival of the head of the column, after which marches will be played until the last unit in the column is in position on the ground. During the ceremony the National Anthem and hymns will be played by the massed bands, conducted by Mr. R. Francis, L.R.S.M. The Wanganui East School bugle band is to play the Wanganui Giris’ College to the ground, and will also sound the Last Post and Reveille as arranged on the programme. Order of Service. The order of service will be much the same as in former years. The Mayor of Wanganui (Mr. W. J. Rogers) will preside, and will hand over the conduct of the service to the Wanganui Ministers’ Association, the president of which is Archdeacon J. R. Young, M.A., C.F. The hymns to be sung are: "O God Our Help in Ages Past,” Kipling's “Recessional,” “Onward, Christian Soldiers,” and “These Things Shall Be.” Ministers assisting the conduct of the service will be Rev. W. M. Smallfleld, C.F., Rev. H. W. Austin, M.A., C.F., and Rev. E. Nicholls, C.F. Prior to the civic ceremony beginning an aeroplane, piloted by FlyingOfficer H. L. Tancred, R.A.F., will fly low over the ground and let fall a wreath of poppies in tribute to men of the Air Services who died. Wreaths to be Deposited, Wreaths will be deposited on the Cenotaph in Queen’s Park and on the Moutoa Memorial by the returned soldiers, and also by the Mayor on behalf of the councillors and citizens of Wanganui. This will be done during the march of the parade, a halt being made at each memorial. Wreaths from relatives and others who desire that they be placed on the soldiers’ graves in the city cemeteries may be left at St. Paul’s Hall until 1 o’clock on Anzac Day. If the weather is wet the civic service will be held indoors, the Queen

Alexandra Band, returned soldiers, the Wellington West Coast Regiment, and the Collegiate School cadets going to the Opera House, and the others on parade, including the Salvation Army and Garrison Bands, to the I Majestic Theatre. The same service will be given at each theatre, the principal speaker being called on to speak twice. The firebell will be tolled at one o'clock if the ceremony is to be held indoors.
