WAVERLEY Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Dickie, and Misses Molly and Dorothy Dickie, are spending a short holiday in Rotorua. Mr. and Mrs. Neville and Mrs. Lee. of Auckland, are the guests of Mrs. H. P. Mitcalfe. 1 Friends of Miss McMeakin will be pleased to hear she has recovered sufficiently from her recent illness to return to her home in Waverley. BULLS Mr. K. W. Dalrymple left this week for Southland to spend a few weeks wapiti shooting. PATEA Mrs. E. A. Bowen is an inmate of the local hospital. Mr. W. Bond is an inmate of the Patea Hospital. Miss R. Honeyfield has taken up nursing duties at New Plymouth. Miss G. Tompkins, former Plunket nurse, sailed from Auckland yesterday for Australia and the East. Mrs. Southcombe, and little Sally, Otaki, have been guests of Mrs. S. C. Mcßae. The office staff of Gibson’s Stores, made a presentation to Miss Jean ’ Smith last week when she severed her connection with them in view of her approaching marriage. Mr. S. Jury, manager, presented Miss Smith with a silver cake stand on benaif of the staff. Mrs. H. Reid presented a silver entree dish on behalf of the firm. WAITOTARA Mr. and Mrs. lan Parsons and Mr. Norman Parsons are in Feilding for the polo tournament. Mr. and Mrs. J. Walkington motored to Feilding for the day and attended the polo tournament. Mr. and Mrs. Olsen motored to Auckland for a recent week-end. Miss D. Simpson, Palmerston North, spent last week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Simpson, Nukumaru. A visitor to Waitotara is Miss Vai Turner, who is on a visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. Turner. Mrs. W. Hurley and Miss R. Hurley, who have been on a motor tour of the South Island, returned during the week-end. Mrs. Hurley has now gone to Rotorua with some friends. At the W.D.F.U. committee meeting, held on Monday night, the secretary was asked to write to Miss Thompson (the W.D. dressmaker) and express the committee’s sympathy in her recent bereavement. TAIHAPE. At a recent meeting of the Taihape branch of the N.Z. Labour Party the opportunity was taken to congratulate Mr. P. Kearins junr. on his appointment by the Government to the Massey College Board of Directors. Mrs. Wakelin, of New Plymouth, and Mrs. Roberry of Wellington, are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. McKenzie, of Kaka Road. The friends of Mr. and Mrs. A. McConachie, of Taihape, will regret to learn of the death of their daughter Valmai, aged 17 years, which occurred at the Wanganui Hospital on Tuesday. Much sympathy will be extended to the bereaved parents in their sad loss. Mr. Jack McKenzie, a well-known identity of the Taihape district passed away on Monday at the advanced age of about 95 years. He had been a resident of the Taihape district for 47 years and was employed by Mr. J. Whenuaroa for many years. Deceased was also employed by Mr. J. Banks at one stage of his career. The funeral look place on Tuesday. Mr. H. F. Hayden passed away suddenly at Milford, Auckland, on Tuesday. Deceased was at one time manager of the Taihape branch of the Bank of Australasia and had many friends in this town. He is survived by his wife and two daughters and four sons. Miss Joyce Owen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Owen, of Ohotu, is an inmate of the Braemar private hospital where she underwent an operation on Monday. She is making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Mr. W. (Bill) Norton, of the guiding staff of the Chateau Tongariro, passed through Taihape yesterday en route to Wellington, from where he will leave on a trip to England. Mr. W. Rolston (jnr.), of Welling-, ton. is spending his annual holidays with his parents, Mr. a-nd Mrs. W. Rolston, of Taihape. Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Watson, who have been spending a vacation at Tauranga and Rotorua, have returned to Taihape.
