ANGLICAN GIRLS’ CLUB (Own Correspondent) PATEA, March 22. A committee meeting of the Anglican Girls’ Club was held this week. Mrs. W. H. Walton presiding. It was decided to commence meetings with a hymn, and have half an hour’s Bible study before commencing social evenings. A social and dance is to be held m St. George’s Hall in May, invitations to be sent out. The programme drawn up for the next three months includes games, evenings, demonstrations on various arts and crafts, talks, play reading and charades. It was decided that any surplus money from socials go towards a new chancel light for the church. Members are to endeavour to sew or knit more baby garments for inc Khandallah Babies’ Home. as the parcel sent in the past few years has not been as large as desired. PRESENTATION TO MRS. | . KOGERS Members of the ladies’ committee of the Patea branch of the New Zealand Labour Party paid a surprise visit to Mrs. M. F. Rogers, on Saturday evening, who has acted as secretary for the past year. Mrs. Barclay (president), in an appropriate speech, presented Mrs. Rogers with a handsome clock as a mark of respect and appreciation. Mrs. Rodgers suitably replied, and “For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow” concluded the evening. WAVERLEY SMOKE CONCERT FAREWELL TO BANK MANAGER (Own Correspondent). WAVERLEY, March 22. On Monday night the supper room of the Waverley Tow n Hail was packed, when the men of the district held a smoke concert to farewell Mr. J. Currie, who leaves this week for Thames. Mr. Currie has held the position of manager of the Bank of New' South Wales for 15i years, and has made a large number of friends in the district. On behalf of those present, Mr. J. J. Boyer), The Ladies 'Mr. Geo. Johnston SOCIAL EVENING AT NGUTUWERA A social evening was held at Block IX, Ngutuwera, on March 17. Several car loads of visitors attended from as far as Hawera and Wanganui. Music for the dancing was provided by Mr. C. Hooper (piano), Mr. P. J. Hickey (violin), Mr. F. Muldrock (flute), and Mr. R. Noonan (piano-accordion). During the evening several solo items were rendered, namely, Miss E. O’Regan sang “Terrence’s Farewell,” Mr. P. J. Hickey sang “Danny Boy,” Mr. T. Hooper sang “Annie Laurie,” while Mr. H. C. Muldrock gavp a

humorous recitation entitled “The Sailor.” The Monte Carlo w r as won by Miss Prosser and Mr. N. C. Hooper. An amusing competition was won by Mr. T. Hooper.
