TAIHAPE RUGBY

MOYE SCHEME ADOPTED SPECIAL MEETING OF UNION (Own Correspondent.) TAIHAPE, March 21. At a special general meeting of: the Taihape Rugby Union, held last evening to consider the Moye scheme or alternative proposals for the betterment of Rugby in this district, it was decided to participate in the Moye Cup competition again this year. The meeting was attended by Rugby supporters as well as members of the union. Mr. John Quirk, president of the union, occupied the chair, and the following members of the union were present: —Messrs. J. Webb, A. H. Smith, C. H. Transom, and D. T. Kelly (secretary). Unfortunately the attendance was disappointing, the Utiku and Pirates clubs being unrepresented. The secretary read the minutes of a conference held at Wanganui at which amendments were proposed to the Moye scheme. Mr. W. Healey thought that a third of the gate takings was not sufficient. He thought Taihape was entitled to half the net proceeds, if the final was played at Wanganui. The secretary pointed out that the total gate takings last year were £97, compared with £9O odd the previous season. Travelling expenses had increased to £49. A Voice: The Wanganui Union paid about £25 towards the expenses. Mr. Smith: The gate receipts in the early part of the season were very good, though the last few games were poorly supported. Mr. Smith suggested two senior teams be entered in the Moye scheme. He thought it advisable to elect a separate body to run the local competition. The Moye scheme was the only solution for the seniors. Mr. Smith moved that the Taihape Union carry on with the Moye scheme for 1934. Mr. Fisher seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. The date of the annual meeting was fixed for April 3.
