“THE LADY IN THE MORGUE” For positively eerie suspense that keeps you on tender hooks till the law gets its prey in the last scene. Universal's thriller, “The Lady in the Morgue," screening at the Regent Theatre, can’t be beaten. This screen version of Jonathan Latii mer’s celebrated Crime Club novel is a Grade A baffler, with more twisted clues, zestful roughouse and picturesque characters than have been seen on the screen in a month of Sundays. Chief among these characters is Detective Bill Crane, the hard-boiled. pleasa.ntly alcoholic sleuth. He is played by Preston Foster, who created this character on the screen in “The Westland Case.” "Oh Susanna!” The attraction at the Regent Theatre to-morrow will be a double feature programme. Gene Autry, the singing saddle star, will appear with Smiley Burnette and “Champion” in “Oh Susanna!” The story deals with a had man masquerading as a radio star at a dude ranch and is considered to be Gene Autry’s best production to date. Frances Grant, who did a small part in “Red River Valley," plays opposite Autry and among the supporting players are Ed Piel, sen.. Fred Burns, Roger, Grey, Snowfloke Roscoe Gerall, Ken Cooper and Alfred James. Gene Autry’s new numbers in “Oh Susanna!’’ are “By a Waterfall,” "Riding Down the Texas Trail.” "Dear Old Western Skies,” "Whisky Bill,” and “Honeymoon "’rail,” in addition to the old favourite, “Oh Susanna!” The associate feature will be Glenda Farrell and Barton Mac Lane in "Adventurous Blonde,” the third in the series of “Torchy Blane,” newspaper - mystery - comedy - dramas.
