BEAUTIES OF WANGANUI
PEOPLE NOT AWARE OF THEM VISITORS IMPRESSED "The people of Wanganui themselves are not aware of the beauties of their own city,” said Mr. A. R. Donaldson, secretary of the Wanganui Chamber of Commerce, last night, reporting that he had motored the secretary of the Royal Agricultural Association of Victoria, Mr. Louis Monod of Melbourne, to various points of interest in Wanganui recently. ~ . Mr. Donaldson said that Mr. Monod had expressed an opinion that itineraries of tourists should be made more leisurely than at present, especially, as in his case, when people were on a health recruiting trip. He had no idea of what Wanganui had to offer in the way of scenery until he had been taken to various places in and about the city. "The Hon. Adam Hamilton has been to Wanganui on a number of occasions,” said Mr. Donaldson, yet, last Friday was the first time he was able to get out of the Avenue. He was greatly impressed with the airport we have and made special reference to it at the meeting he addressed at night," Mr. Donaldson said. Mr. Donaldson added that few people were aware of the striking view obtainable from the top of Roberts Avenue. It was essential, however, if visitors were to appreciate the beauties as they should, that more time should be permitted them to stay in the city. As a result of his
contact with Mr. Monod letters of introduction had been given to two Wanganui people who were to visit Melbourne in the near future.
