FIRE BRIGADES IN WANGANUI

TO-DAY’S ACTIVITIES BIG PROCESSION AND DISPLAY AT NIGHT The highlight of Firemen's Week in Wanganui will be to-night, when the brigades, bands (Highland a.nd Garrison) and the Wanganui Amateur Athletic Club will combine to stage a big display on Cook’s Gardens. A procession is to leave the Town Bridge at 7.30 p.m. and will march up the Avenue and on to Cook’s Gardens, which is to be lit by 50.000 candlepower electric lights mounted on four permanent steel towers. Features of the evening’s display will he a real fire and the activities qj>’ a Dark Town fire brigade, a drum major’s display by the Wanganui Highland Pipe Rand and exciting cycling and athletic events staged by the Amateur Athletic Club. This morning the United Fire Brigades’ Con foresee will be resumed. It is expected to finish to-morrow night. Visiting ladies air to be taken for a motor drive this afternoon to Virginia Lake, where afternoon tea will be had at the Kiosk. To-morrow At 9 a.m.: Demonstration begins at Cook’s Gardens and continues throughout the day; 2.15 p.m., social afternoon tendered to visiting ladies by the Wanganui Townswomen’s Guild at the Savage Club Hall, Drew's Avenue. The visiting firemen and their wives have been invited to see the Sarjeant Gallery and Alexander Museum and also the Wanganui Public Library.
