OBITUARY

JOHN HEMPSEED McLEAN. The death occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, at his residence in Rira Street, Marton, of John Hempseed McLean, at the age of 58 years. Although ho had been failing in health for the past twelve months, he was always able to follow his occupation as a farmer, but on Sunday he suffered from a severe attack of heart trouble and passed quietly away. The late Mr. McLean first started farming about 1900 at Waituna West, and afterwards in the Rangitikci district as a sheep farmer. He was of a cheerful disposition and took an active part in following lhe Rangitikci hounds for a number of years, and was always mounted on a good hunter in the point-to-point fields. As a member of the Marton District A. and P. Association he was an energetic committeeman and contributed to the success of the association both as a committeeman and as an exhibitor. He was also one of the early members of the Marton Jockey Club. The late Mr. McLean was married to Miss Olive Jane Burr, of Wanganui, who, with their only son, Hector, are left to mourn the loss of loving husband and father. He was the third son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Donald McLean, of South Makirikiri, early* pioneers in the Rangitikci district, and Lachlan (Waituna West), Donald (Beaconsfield), Duncan (Marton Junction), Douglas (Wanganui), and Francis (South Makirikiri) arc brothers, and Mrs. Keith Glasgow (Marton) is a sister. The funeral win leave his late residence, Rira Street, at 2 o’clock this (Tuesday) afternoon for the Bonny Glen Cemetery. ANDREW LORIMER. Whilst, on a visit to Taihape last week Mr. Andrew Lorimer, of Upper Tutaenui, Marton, was taken seriously ill and taken to a private hospital at Taihape. He failed to recover and died on Saturday night in his 62nd year. The late Mr. Lorimer had been farming for a number oi years in the Marton district, and was well known and highly respected. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, the Rev. T. H. Burton (Presbyterian minister) conducting a servfce at the home and also at the graveside in the Upper Tutaenui Cemetery. An impressive Masonic service ,<as conducted by Bio. R. G. Kingdon, assisted by Bro. J. W. Gibson and the Rev. W. Raine. members of Lodge Ruapehu acting as pall-bearers. There was a large attendance of mourners, including members of Court Little John, A.0.F., and Lodge Ruapehu, of which the deceased was a member. A number of beautiful floral tributes testified to the high °steem in which the late Mr. Lorimer was held in the Rangitikei district. A widow and (three daughters, Jean, Margaret and J<fiet, are left to mourn their loss.
