DISPLAY OF DAHLIAS

WANGANUI AND SUBURBAN SOCIETY A SUCCESSFUL SHOW The Wanganui and Suburban Horticultural Society held its annual dahlia show in the beautiful grounds of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Jenkins’ home, Anzac Parade, on Saturday. It would have been hard to find a better setting for such a show. Big magnolia trees were in full bloom and the autumn flowered gardens and shrubberies made a pleasing picture. A magnificent display was made by the various entries. It was noticeable, however, that many of the prizes were won by exhibitors outside of Wanganui. The champion bloom, an attractive specimen of "Henley’s Giant," was won by Mr. C. Dickie, Waverley.

Special tributes were paid to the work and interest in the society of Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins. The president, Mr. W. P. Elliot, thanked them for lending their grounds for the show and for the work they had done for the society generally. Joy Kitney presented Mrs. Jenkins with a basket of beautiful flowers and a buttonhole was presented to Mr. Jenkins by Mrs. J. McGregor. Occasion was taken also to present Miss J. M. Stevens, Wanganui, with the silver medal of the Royal Horticultural Society of London for an exhibit of New Zealand ferns shown at the Society’s spring show.
