OHAKEA SCHOOL PICNIC

(Own Correspondent.) OHAKEA, March 5. Favoured with good weather the local school’s annual picnic was held at Foxton Beach on Tuesday. The morning was spent in games and races, the following being the results:— Tiny tots, Barbara Vile 1, Althea Ellery 2; Boys, 7-9, Noel Bartlett 1, Harold Wightman 2, Bobby Henderson 3; girls, 6-8. After lunch. Mr. K. Vile (president) complimented the children and teachers on their yeas’s work and went on to present, the prizes. Every small child received a toy and girt book. Those winning prizes were as follows: Sewing prizes (Std. 5-6, trophy by Mrs. H. Ellery), Audrey Capstick; sewing (Std. 3-4, trophies by Mrs. B. Henderson and T. Tremain). Stella Tremain 1, Shirley Sadler 2; Std. 1-2 (trophy by Mrs. R. Bartlett), Harriet Walker 1; most improved sewer (presented by Mrs. J. Ellery), Jill Bartlett; dux (G. H. Bennett’s prize), Lorna Sadler; science (prizes awarded by I. N. Lett), Std. 5-6, Audrey Capstick, Lorna Sadler (equal); Std. 3-4, Shirley Sadler, Russell Armstrong (equal). Stella Tremain then presented Mrs. Mansell, who was married recently, with a beautiful gift from all the pupils of the school. Swimming was then enjoyed by all until afternoon tea, after which everyone left for home.
