PENSIONS FOR M.P.’s
BRITISH COMMONS SCHEME. Received Feb. 3, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 2. A private member’s motion on a scheme for pensions for past members of the House of Commons over the, age of 60 who have less than £3 a week on which to live, was moved in the House of Commons by Sir Assheton Pownall. He said £1 a month deducted from the salary of all members of the House would yield £7OOO yearly. Pensions would be at the rate of £l5O a year for members needing them. Mr. Chamberlain, supporting the motion, pointed out that the scheme imposed no charge on the public funds. The motion was carried bjf 204 votes to 103.
