ACCOMPLISHED MUSICIANRETURNS FROM ABROAD After spending eight years in Europe studying, broadcasting and giving recitals, Miss Dorothy Davies, of Wanganui, returned to Wellington on Monday. Miss Davies was educated at the Wanganui Girls’ College. For the past two years she has been in Italy, broadcasting from Milan, and giving recitals witn famous singers and violists. “Italy is a darling place,” she said in an interview. “It has to be seen to be believed. It is the home of all our culture. Its architecture is equisite and its' art galleries wonderful. The Italian people are charming and there is no apparent feeling of political unrest.
Miss Davies stayed in a little Italian inn on the shores of Lake Como, where as a relaxation from music, she able to go mountain climbing. She also visited Germany and France and took part in music festivals at Salzburg and Bayreuth. Among the famous people with whom she has played are Simon Goldberg, the famous violinist of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, and Don Morano, the Italian bass singer, with whom she has perfoined the son fa cycles, “Winter Reise,” by Schubert, and Schumann’s “Dichter Lieder.' Don Morano hopes to visit New Zealand during the year, in which case Miss Davies will play for him. On her return through Australia. Miss Davies gave recitals with Ethel Osborne. She intends to visit Australia again later in the year to play for Frau Schnabel, who, with her husband, Dr. Schnabel, has planned a tour there, and may visit New Zealand. In the meantime.
