SIZE OF FISH IN LAKE TAUPO

NO DANGER OF DETERIORATION ( Per Frees Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 4. Charges that fishing in Lake Taupo is likely to detericrate as a result of large bags being taken, are refuted by Mr. Samuel Tinsley, of London, who recently spent some time there. With his wife and party, Mr. Tinsley, in 28 days, caught 346 trout, weighing 12111 b., in addition to which he put back uninjured, 212 trout. Many of them were gor'd fish, he said, but slightly on the thin side, and he retained nothing but the best. When very fine tackle was used, he claimed, the fish had a sporting chance. With more than 200 square miles of water, the resources of Lake Taupo would not be touched by fair angling either by fly fishing or trolling. In the Highland lochs where he was accustomed to fish the average bnown trout weighed less than half a pound, but those at Taupo scaled four pounds.
