LIVESTOCK MARKETS

VALUES AT ADDINGTON EASING IN ALL SECTIONS [ Per Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 4. At the weekly stock sale at Addington to-day, witn odd exceptions, there was an easing of all sections, particularly fat and store sheep. The first store lambs of the season were penned and for the greater part were of- a good type. A line of 261 made 17s id and another of 251 made 14s 9d, more backward sorts selling at 11s 2d. The good condition of lambs, as a whole, showed a favourable season existing for feed. Fat lambs, with the export schedule, were down a farthing a lb., and prices were accordingly easier for export sorts, but lamos bought for the trade showed no change on the 8d per lb. ruling previously for export. The entry of fat sheep comprised about 5000 compared with 5000 a fortnight ago. The market was verydisappointing and there was a sharp drop in ewes and a moderate one in wethers of Is, with best wethers easier over the later stages of the sale by Is to Is 6d. Range of prices:— Extra prime heavy wethers to 25s 4d, prime heavy 21s to 235, prime medium 17s 6d to 20s 6d, light to 14s 6d; extra prime heavy ewes to 21s 7d, prime heavy 16s to 18s, prime medium 12s to 15s, light to 8s 6d. The fat cattle entry comprised 390 compared with 470 a fortnight ago and the quality was easier than tnat at the last sale by about 10s per head for prime medium-weight cattle and to 15s for heavy steers. Values varied little as the sale progressed, many of the medium-weight steers and prime heifers ranging from 35s to 36s per lOOlbs., with tops, in a few’ cases, to 37s 6d. Heavy beef sold in some cases down to 31s, with rougn down to 255. Extra prime heavy steeis to 117 17s 6d, prime heavy £l4 10s to £l6, prime medium £l3 to £l4 10s, light to £9 10s; extra prime heifers to £l2 17s 6d, prime £9 15s to £ll, light to £7; extra prime cows to £ll 17s 6d. prime £7 to £9, light to £5. Fat pigs showed a porker entry cf the smallest for some time; nevertheless, prices showed very little improvement on the values of a fortnight ago. Choppers were in medium supply and met a very satisfactory sale all round. Baconers were penned in average numbers and values showed an easing of at least 5s because of the export schedule having been reduced by, a farthing a lb. Porkers, 38s 6d to 59s 6d, average price per lb. 64d to 7id; baconers o6s 6d ’to £4 Is 6d; average price per leb. 6d to 6£d.
