HAWERA, Jan. 3. Six rinks from the Waverley Bowling Club visited the Hawera club today for a friendly match, this being an annual fixture between the two clubs. Play commenced shortly after 9.30, each rink playing two matches, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The morning play resulted in a win for Hawera by 117 points to 110 on the aggregate. On the rinks Waverley won three and Hawera two, the other match being drawn. Twentyone heads were played. The visitors were entertained at luncheon at the Dominion Hotel by the Hawera club, morning and afternoon tea being provided in the pavilion by the ladies’ committee of the club. Section play was finalised yesterday and 25 pairs will go forward for post-section play which starts this morning. The following pairs went right through section play with a loss:— Rosvall and Mowlem (Palmerston North), Child and Nash (Palmerston North), and Marton and Cuming (Marton). Those qualifying for post-section play are: Nash, Mowlem and Cuming (8 wins, no losses); Kershaw, Tantrum, Skoglund, Haworth (7 wins, 1 loss); Moore, Mills, Bland, Burns (Wanganui East), Roore, Paton, Anderson, Wenham (6 wins 2 losses); Arnott, Smith, Wort, Titshall, Larcomb, Cooksley, Shand, Lovelock, White (Patea), and Sparrow (5 wins, 3 losses).
