NOMINATIONS DUE BIGGER ASHHURST STAKES. An increase of £2OO in stakes, taking the prize-money to £l5OO, is offered for the Ashhurst-Pohangina Racing Club’s annual meeting on Anniversary Day, Monday, January 23. The meeting will now be held on tlie club’s own course, as certain public works which would interfere with access to the grounds are not now to be commenced till after the fixture. The principal event will be the Ashhurst Cup, with a prize of £320 and run over li miles. Two other open events will be the Pohangina Handicap, £2OO, 6 furlongs, and the Raumai Handicap, £175, 7 furlongs. The hacks are well catered for, and the Manawatu Gorge Hack Cup, 1 mile and 110 yards, will this year be worth £225. The opening race as usual will be a hurdles over 15 miles. The club’s 40 loose boxes, handy to the course and hotels, are offered to owners and trainers free of charge for the meeting. In addition the club will pay rail freight or equivalent in float charges, one way, for horses attending from Taranaki, Wanganui, Wellington, Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay. Nominations are due on Thursday, January 5, at 9 p.m.

TATTERSALL’S CUP DAY BRISTOL IN CLOSE FINISH Received Jan. 2, 11.30 p.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 2. The Randwick meeting was concluded to-day. The principal race resulted:— Tattersall’s Cup.—Bristol (McMenamin) 1, Bringa (Watterson) 2, Red Sails (Duncan) 3. Scratched; Sedunum, Golden Treasure, 'Kaiterc, Edible. Bristol took the lead as the field straightened for the run home and won by a head, with Red Sails half a head away, third. Time, 2.322. IN AUSTRALIA RACING AT RANDWICK CARRINGTON STAKES DAY Received Jan. 2, 7.5 p.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 2, At Randwick on Saturday the Carrington Stakes resulted:—Delmestor (Davidson) 1, Early Bird (Bartie) 2, Grand Boy (A. Knox) 3. Scratched: Gold Rod. In a well-contested race Delmestor, who was lying handy to the leaders throughout, won by a head, with Grand Boy one and a-half lengths away, third. Time, 1.11. Highborn, Golden Treasure, Troy and Edible were unplaced in the Den-, man Handicap.
