ESPIONAGE ACTIVITIES
CASE IN LOS ANGELES Received Dec. 23, 5.5 p.m. LOS ANGELES, Dec. 21. The Federal Grand Jury to-day indicted Mikhail Gorin and Balis Salich on charges of espionage. There were three counts on each of which they are being arraigned on December 26. The Federal Department of Justice on December 14 was reported to be holding Mikhail Gorin, the manage:of Intourist, the Soviet travel organisation, and Hafis Salich, a Russianborn American, on chai>:s of espionage. Gorin and Salich were charged with stealing information gathered by the United States on Japan’s military and naval strength, and supplying it to the Soviet. Salich, as a United States naval intelligence officer at San Pedro, had access to data on Japan, which G-men said was of the utmost value to Russia. He allegedlysupplied this to a former Soviet consular official.
