MR. AND MRS. H. J. TRUSSELL'S PUPILS Despite the unfavourable weather last Tuesday evening, a large audience attended Mr. and Mrs. 11. J. Trussell's pupils’ recital, which was held in the Wanganui East Town Hall. Mrs. G. Ferrell was the assisting vocalist and her rendering of Schubert’s "Ave Maria,” with orchestral accompaniment, was a musical treat. In the junior concert, pianoforte solos were given by the following: T. Cox, H. Dornbusch, M. Bradley, L. Baldwin, N. Chapman, N. Couchman, P. Williamson, M. Bradshaw, P. Duffy, N. McCarthy, M. Booth, D. Heine, W. Martin, N. Bloomfield, and B. Allen, while L. Shannon, M. Jones, D. Crowley, R. Fenwarden, Y. Twining, and F. Ginn played violin solos. A xylophone solo was given by A. Cables. Some excellent playing was heard in the senior concert by both violin and piano students, and the future musical career of some of these instrumentalists will be watched wtlh interest. Derek Sheppard played the pianoforte solo, "Minuet,” from Sonata in G (Arne); Miss S. Mills, "Elfin Dance” (Jensen); Mr. C. Pearson, "Rustle of Spring” (Ginding); Mr. D. Smith, "Polonaise in A” (Chopin); Miss W. Martin, "Alt Wien” (Godowsky); Miss A. Allen, "Two Guitars” (Grooms); Miss G. Tonkins, "A Hunting Tune” (Boyce); Derek Stapleton, “Waltz op. 42” (Chopin); Howard Toop, “Fantasie Impromptu” (Chopin); Mr. W. Trussell, "Gnomenreigen” (Liszt) and "The Revelationary Study” (Chopin). The violinists were Miss Daisy Clark, who played the “Reverie” (Vieutemps); Mr. W. Millen, "Bolero” (German), and Mrs. H. J. Trussell and Miss Ena Moss, who contributed the violin duet, "Canzonetta” (Ames). Barrie Trussell played “11 Trovatore” (Verdi) as a Marimba solo. A feature of the recital was the splendid playing of the orchestra, which gave “The Dance of the Tumblers” (Rimsky Korsakov). "The Broken Ring,” "Slavonic Rhapsody" (Triedmann), and the march, “Wellington” (Zehle). The accompanists were Misses G. Trussell, B. Alexander, P. Rose, M. Peat, A. Crawley, and Master D. Stapleton.
