TEMPERANCE WORK

WANGANUI CENTRAL BRANCH FINAL MEETING OF THE YEAR The final meeting of the year in connection with the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held on Thursday afternoon in Trinity Parlour. Mrs. Laird led in the devotional exercises, after which the chair was occupied by Mrs. A. Duxlield. president. Several apologies were received for absence. After routine business had been attended to the secretary, Mrs. Laird, read her annual report, which showeu that progress had been made during the year. Much useful work had been accomplished, as well as an increase in membership. In connection with the good citizenship department it was reported that the union had adopted a Chinese orphan, helped the Spanish refugees, St. John Ambulance and Red Cross Society; also assisted the Y.M.C.A. street collection. Mrs. Robert Wilson was appointed treasurer in place of Mrs. Phizacklea, who has resigned. Votes of thanks were passed to officers, pianist, and all won had worked faithfuly in the interests of Goa, home and mumanity. The meeting closed with the expression of good wishes and much happiness to ali during the festive season, from the president.
