PATEA BEACH The action of the executive of the Seaside Society in accepting the offer of Mesdames Peacocke and Horner to open a tea kiosk at the beach was endorsed at a meeting last week, and a full explanation made. The executive had been endeavouring to cater for the requirements of visitors to the beach so that refreshments were available when the beach was used. Offers were received for part-time service which did not meet the needs of the public, and the executive were faced with the difficulty of accepting the part-time service for which a building would have to be erected or have no service at all. Mesdames Peacocke and Horner offered to provide the necessary building and, in addition, to pay the society a greater sum than ever previously offered for the right to sell refreshments. The full service, which has now been opened, will popularise the beach greatly in the future. PERSONAL Miss Alison Hamel has returned from Auckland. Mesdames W. H. Walker and Cook have returned from New Plymouth. Miss Phyllis Bourke has returned to Napier. Mr. J. W. Bourke, who contracted pneumonia recently, is an inmate of the local hospital. Mr. C. Gillon, Masterton, was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. A. Gillon for the week-end. The death occurred at the Patea Hospital on Friday of Mr. C. P. Lord, Kakaramea, who has been in failing health for some time. He is survived by a widow, Mrs. A. M. Lord, Hawera, and a grown-up family.
