RANGITIKEI RUGBY UNION

FINAL MEETING FOR SEASON A meeting of the Rangitikei Rugby Sub-Union was held on Tuesday evening to wind-up the affairs of the past season. Mr. R. C. S. McKenzie presided over Messrs. A. Henwood. L. Bull (Hunterville), C. C. Price (Bulls), G. Thomson (Referees’ Association) and K. A. Williams (secretary). The secretary was instructed to write to the Wanganui Rugby Union asking for the £lO promised at the beginning of the season toward expenses of the Rangitikei teams travelling to Taihape. It was decided to make donations of £3 6s 8d to the Bulls. Old Boys and Hunterville Clubs. In view of the fact that Halcombe had already been paid £4 towards travelling expenses they were not included in the allocation. The matter arose when a letter was read from the Marton 0.8. Club asking whether the union intended to make a grant towards travelling expenses. The union congratulated the Rangitikei primary school representatives on winning the quadrangular tournament at Lower Hutt recently, and it was decided to donate £5 towards travelling expenses incurred in practice matches.

The chairman said he had been in communication with Mr. Norman McKenzie (Hawke’s Bay), concerning the cancellation of the Hawke’s Bay Colts’ visit to Marton. The Hawke’s Bay selector apologised for the abandonment of the tour and unless something extraordinary happened, the Colts’ team would definitely appear in Marton next season. The selector, Mr. Henwood, took the opportunity to thank the president, secretary and Messrs. Price and W. Bush for assistance rendered in assembling representative teams. Mr. Henwood paid a special tribute to Mr. H. G. Stewart for his valuable services. “Mr. Stewart,” said Mr. Henwood, “has given me a great deal of <ielp. He went to no end of trouble in helping to assemble teams. It is very gratifying to know that players like Mr. Stewart come forward to ring up players for rep. matches.” Mr. Henwood desired to place on record Mr. Stewart’s valued co-opera-tion. The secretary was instructed to write a suitable letter acknowledging Mr. Stewart’s sendees.
