THE SOVIET BUDGET
BIG EXPENDITURE ON ARMS Received Aug. 11. 6.26 p.m. MOSCOW, Aug. 11. The Finance Commissar (M. Zveryev) announced at the session oi the Supreme Soviet that armaments would absorb a quarter of the Budget. The military budget is 27,000,000,000 roubles, compared with 20,000,000,000 last year. In ad/.tion, 7500.000,000 roubles are provided for defence industries, 43,000,000,000 for the Interior Department, which controls the border troops, and industrial and military projects. The total expenditure is 123,000,000,000 roubles. The revenue is estimated at 125,000,000,000 roubles. Health expenditure of 8000,000,000 is provided, and education takes 20,000,000,000 roubles. The rouble is nominally 21 3-3 pence. Its equivalent internal value is not quotable.
