ITALY TO BUILD NEW CRUISERS
BIGGEST TYPE OF ANY POWER CRAFT OF 3600 TONS (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Receive'! Aug. 11, 6.40 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 11. The Daily Telegraph says that Italy will shortly begin construction of twelve light cruisers bearing the names of Roman emperors and warriors. They will be of 3600 tons and have a speed of 39 to 40 knots. Their armament will consist of six guns of a calibre of 4.7 to six inches, in addition to anti-aircraft guns and torpedo tubes. They will be completed within twenty-two months. These “exp '•ratori,” or scouts, will eclipse the big French flotilla leaders and further outclass the British Tribal class destroyers. The Italian cruisers, are the biggest of their type in a peace-time programme of any Power.
