SANG AS HE FISHED

FAMOUS BARITONE TIBBETTS DAY IN LAUNCH SYDNEY, May 9. Through rain and sun yesterday, the famous baritone Lawrence Tibbett sat in the swivel seat of the launch Atalanta off the Heads, waiting for a marlin or tiger shark to strike his bait. Mr. Tibbett sang lustily the while, and though his voice has drawn hundreds of admirers to the Town Hall the big game fish listened from a distance without curiosity. He caught no marlin or sharks; only same unwary mackerel, tailer and other small fry; but he thoroughly enjoyed his outing. Mr. Tibbett was lhe guest of Mr. Clive W. Firth, president of the New South Wales Rod-fishers’ Society, Mr. E. Bullen, owner of the Atalanta, Mr Errol Bullen, and Mr. Kerwin Maegraith. Mr. Tibbett said: “I know of no other fishing ground in the world which, for climatic conditions, and all the year round fishing, can compare with Australia.”

His companions on the launch found compensation for their lack of success with the big fish in the singing of their guest.
