SOMETHING LIKE A "PRICE” RECORD AT AINTREE COURSE At Aintree on Grand National Steeplechase Day the official double was picked only once, and Battleship (40 to 1). winner of the Grand National, and Barbadeche (100 to 8;, winner of the Bickerstaffe Maiden Plate, returned a dividend of £5062 for 10s. This boats the previous record of £4679 established last year at Manchester. It is revealed that Lord Digby was the lucky punter to win the record tote double at Liverpool. He was driving away from the course, little suspecting his coup, when the news reached him. "I did not know for certain that the ticket was in order, and there were such long odds against bringing off the double that I did not bothci to wait for the second leg,” said Lord Digby in an interview.
