He paid tribute to the work of the band, which was such a valuable asset to the town. In adding congratulaions, Mr. A. Dunkley said he thought the expenses of conveying the band to the contest should have been paid by the public. He suggested any surplus funds be used for purchasing new instruments. The conductor’s report stated that the year had been busy, public performances having increased by ten, totalling 30. Ninety-eight rehearsals were held. The musical standard of the band was much higher than last year in the Taranaki contest, although not successful, hut with two others were successful in the hymn test in beating the higher grade hands.
