WANGANUI GATHERING NEW SEASON OPENED There was a large aliendance of. members at. the Wanganui Savage Club's first korero of the present season on Saturday night. The rangitira, Savage J. A. Pritchard, presided, and extended a welcome to the old and new members and expresesd the hope that the season would be even more successful than last year. Eleven new members were elected. The entertainment programme was opened with an overture by the club's orchestra, under the conductorship of Savage O. Naumann, the orchestra responding to an encore. The haka party provided several new hakas and Savage W. Thompson sang a bracket of songs. The sketch party, under the direction of Savage Bourne, provided a humorous sketch. Mr Ross Robbins mystified the Savages with a series of conjuring tricks which he executed dexterously. The first half of the programme was brought to a conclusion with a lecturette on the old Rutland Stockade, the site of the club’s hall and the old museum buildings, by Mr T. W. Downes. After supper, Mr Dan Foley, the popular radio tenor, was introduced to the Savages and sang "Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms,” and, as encores, ‘‘Silver Hair and Heart of Gold,” and ‘‘Will You Remember?” from the film "Maytime.” Mr Foley was given a great reception. Mr F. McCallum provided Iwo humorous recitations and Mr Ward a dramatic number.
