TAIHAPE-NAPIER ROAD

WILL BE CLOSED FOR FORTNIGHT BLOCKED BY SLIPS (Own Correspondent) TAIHAPE, April 30. The Taihape-Napier road is blocked by slips and washouts and will not be open for traffic for about a fortnight. The Rangitikei County overseer (Mr J. McDonald) informed the “Chronicle” on Saturday morning that the approach to the bridge over the Kakapino Stream had been washed out, while a big slip had occurred on “Gentle Annie.” Other slips and washouts of a less serious nature had also taken place, and it was unlikely that the road would be open for traffic for at least a fortnight.

Facial Eczema at Taihape The Taihape district has not escaped entirely from the ravages of facial eczema though, fortunately, the position in that district is not nearly as serious as elsewhere, reports the “Chronicle’s’’ representative. One farmer has lost 100 sheep and another 70, while others have suffered to a less degree, but the great majority of Taihape settlers have got off lightly. One farmer advocates the mixing of hay and coarse salt as a food suitable for stock suffering from facial eczema.
