OBITUARY
MR. HECTOR BOOTH Mr. Hector James Booth, of Feilding, died on Thursday after a Jong illness. He was one of the oldest settlers in Feilding and was 85 years of age. Born in Wanganui, he went to Feilding district at the age of 16 years. He played a most prominent part in the early history of the Feilding Jockey Club, the Feilding A. and P. Association, the Feilding Agricultural High School, and many other bodies. With four others Mr. Booth was instrumental in the establishment of the High School, and was a life member of the other two organisations referred to. He spoke Maori fluently and was often of great assistance to settlers in the early days of the Manchester Block in their negotiations with the Maoris.
