ONE THOUSAND GUINEAS ROCKFEL SCORES EASILY LONDON, April 29. On the fourth day of the Newmarket first spring meeting, the following was the result of the One Thousand Guineas. A sweepstakes with 1000 guineas added; second 10 per cent, and third 5 per cent, oi whole stake, for three-year-old hllies; 1 mile. ROCKFEL (Sir Hugo CunliffeOwen), br f, by Feu»tead —Rockliff, by Santorb, 9.0 1 LAUGHING WATER (Mi D. Crossman), b f, by Walter Gay— Duchess of Mars, 9.0 2 SOLAR FLOWER (Sir Alfred Butt), br f, by Solario —Serena, 9.0 3 Twenty starters. Won by one and a-half lengths; three lengths between second and third. Winner bred at the Weir Bank Stud, and trained by Captain O. M. D. Bell at Lambourn Berkshire.

Although there was no filly by the name of Rockfel racing among the two-year-olds in England last season, it is fairly certain from the name that the One Thousand Guineas winner is Sir Hugo Cunliffe-Owens unnamed Rocklifte filly who won the Askham Maiden Plate, 5 furlongs, at odds-on in a field of six at Ycrk on October 7. This filly had started three times previously and had been third, beaten a head and a short ncacl by First Oil and Oratress respectively, in the Maiden T.Y.O. Plate, b furlongs, at Newmarket, on September 28. She did not race again after the Y'ork meeting. Two-year-olds, as is generally well known, may be raced without names in England, but they must be named before beginning their threc-year-oki career. An older full-sister to Rockfel, assuming the filly is as in- ( dicated. started in last year’s Oaks, under the name of Rockfoil, and ran last of the thirteen starters. Felstead a son of Spion Kop and winner of the Derby in 1928 for Sir Hugo, is stil! owned by the baronet and he stands at the stud at 300 guineas.—“Rangatira,” in the Evening tost.
