REAR-ADMIRAL DRUMMOND’S TERM EXPIRING [ T.r fr«i Aaaociation. ] WELLINGTON, April 12. The Government for some time has been in communication with His Majesty’s Government in Great Britain with regard to the nomination of an officer to relieve Rear-Admiral the Honourable E. R. Drummond, C. 8., M.V.0., whose term of office expires in June next, said the Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones, in a statement this evening. The nomination of Captain H. E. Horan, D.S.C., R.N. has been concurred in and he will sail for New Zealand in the Remuera on April 28. Captain Horan will be granted the rank of Commodore 2nd Class and will assume office as first naval member of the Naval Board and as Chief of the Naval Staff in New Zealand.

Certain administrative changes have been decided which will come into force at the same time. Commodore Horan will be stationed at Wellington. In addition to his duties as Chief of the Naval Staff, he will be in charge of the Imperial escort vessels and Imperial interests on the New Zealand Station. The immediate command of the seagoing squadron will devolve upon Captain I. G. Glennie, who will be granted the rank of Commodore 2nd Class.
